Darren Clarke Wins 2011 OPEN - Norhern Ireland on a roll.
Sunday, July 17, 2011

Darren Clarke, from Northern Ireland has won the OPEN 2011 at Royal St. Georges Golf Club, in Sandwich, Kent, England.  After twenty tries, Clarke, a factor for years on the European Tour, and much loved by everyone, being your everyman player, has the Claret Jug, and his first career major.  Playing the difficult Royal St. Georges links course, in difficult conditions most of the time, Clarke, 42 took advantage of his experiance and links skill and simply played the best golf, winning by 3 strokes over his closest challengers, Phil Mickelson who made a mighty charge on Sunday on the first 10 holes, and his playing partner, Dustin Johnson who tied for the silver medal in 2nd place.

Northen Ireland is on the Golf Map big time now, with 3 different players from this tiny country winning majors over the last 13 months, including Graeme McDowell, last years U.S. Open winner at Pebble, and Rory McIlroy, this years winner at the Masters.  We say congratulations Darren, your patience and skill is inspirational, and well done all, and our best to all the fans and citizens of Northen Ireland.
